Nisbet is fortunate to be part of the Toronto Danforth Community and the many business owners who operate here. People like Ted Halkusis and the wonderful staff at Pape Pharmacy (see picture above), the unofficial mayor of the Danforth, Saul Korman and Korry’s Clothiers to Gentlemen and Peter Hadjis owner of the Palace Restaurant, one of the original Greek restaurants in the area. Nisbet is an active participant in a number of sector associations and networks. We believe that we are stronger when we work together with other health care providers.
OANHSS as it is called lobbies government on behalf of not for profit long-term are homes, housing providers and home support agencies. They also provide educational opportunities, help with policies and with professional certification for administrators. Nisbet staff are active at both the regional and board level. Link
Solutions is a voluntary network that spans a broad cross-section of heath care providers in east Toronto. For over a decade they have worked at identifying gaps in service and ways to improve health care for resident of this neighborhood. Programs have included the award winning CREMS or Community Referrals by EMS which links frequent users of emergency services with local home support agencies. In addition, Solutions runs a semi-annual conference called Healthy Connections. Many of the topics have been ahead of the curve such as community hubs. The collaborative has also developed a cost effective learning management system along with a wider variety of eLearning modules for staff. (link)
Almost from its inception Nisbet has provided placement and work opportunities for students. We believe that such experiences are mutually beneficial. They provide students with work experience and for staff a chance to pass along their expertise.

We take placement students in various disciplines from activation to personal support workers and registered nurses to food service workers. In addition, we offer co-op experiences from local high schools. We are fortunate to have local officials who take an interest in our residents as well as the organization as a whole. They are: Member of Parliament for Toronto Danforth – Julie Dabrusin, Member of Provincial Parliament – Peter Tabuns and City Councilor for Ward 29 – Mary Fragedakis.
Nisbet as a faith based organization relies on our founding congregation, Calvary Church, our Chaplain but also other local churches and volunteers to meet the spiritual needs of those who call 730 and 740 Pape home. A sample of these include: Holy Name, St. Barnabas, Church on the Queensway, Forward Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist and St. Irene Chrysovalantou Greek Orthodox Church.
